It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Vera Friederike Margarete Muller (nee Schmidt), who died peacefully on October 1st, 2025, at the age of 94. A devoted mother, loving grandmother, and active community member, Vera leaves behind a legacy of dedication to her family, faith, and community service.
Vera was born on November 29th, 1930, in Weilburg, Germany. She trained as a pediatric nurse, working professionally in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1955. After working as a nanny for the Kirby family for a year, she resumed her career as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey.
In 1958, she married Erwin Muller, and in 1960, she retired from nursing to focus on raising her four sons: Hans, Richard, Andrew, and Eric. The family established roots in Towaco, New Jersey, where Vera became a US citizen, before settling in Holmdel, New Jersey, in 1971.
Vera was a vibrant and engaged beloved member of the New Monmouth Baptist Church. Her Christian faith was central to her life and everyone knew Vera as a generous, gentle, encouraging listener who was always willing to get involved and lend a helping hand. Vera taught Sunday school, participated in numerous church organizations, and co-founded and produced the "Heartline" newsletter and "Fellowship Day" (a weekly social gathering that brought older people together). Her commitment to service and volunteer zeal extended beyond the church as well, and she proudly served as a first responder on the Holmdel First Aid Squad for many years.
Throughout her life, Vera embraced the outdoors with her husband, Erwin. Together, they shared passions for camping, hiking, gardening and tennis. Their adventurous spirit led them to travel the world, camping, and hiking extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and the Alps in Europe. Inseparable friends and companions for over sixty-seven years, Vera and Erwin encouraged and took care of each other through sickness and health. A cherished memory was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with their entire extended family in Yosemite, California.
Vera is survived by her four sons and their wives, and eleven grandchildren. She was predeceased earlier this year by her husband, Erwin.
A memorial service will be held to honor Vera's life at the New Monmouth Baptist Church on January 6th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.
