Virginia C. "Ginny" Montelius

Virginia "Ginny" C. Montelius died on November 29, 2025, at the age of 89 after a brief illness. She was born on January 25, 1934, to Jean and Fred Campkin. Ginny grew up in West Haven where she met the love of her life, Bob Montelius, when she was 16. She graduated from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and worked at the West Haven VA on the psych ward for a few years. She and Bob married while he was serving in the Air Force in Germany. After he returned to the states, they moved to North Branford where they lived for many decades. After her children were in school, she worked as the school nurse at North Branford High School. Ginny was very active in her church as well as the North Branford Women's Club. She and Bob enjoyed entertaining at their home and traveled to many places over the years. She was a sewer, quilter and crafter, and spent many hours preserving the fruits and vegetables Bob grew on their property. Ginny had great empathy for others and was well-loved by many. She will be missed.


She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert J. Montelius, her daughters, Jeanie (Stephen) Cosgrove and Amy (Greg) Hopkins, her seven grandchildren, Sheila (Jim), Michael, Daniel (Amber), Andrew, Amanda (Sean), Melanie and Evan, and six great-grandchildren, Justina, Noah, Victoria, Fiona, Timothy and Trixie.


The family thanks the staff at the Masonicare Health Center for their wonderful care, especially Amanda, Ayesha, Tammy and LaVine. The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at North Branford Congregational Church at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to North Branford Congregational Church, 1680 Foxon Road, North Branford, CT 06471.
