Vivian June Clark, age 79, went to be with her Lord Jesus on January 18, 2016, after suffering from Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. This was just three months after her husband, John Morril Clark, left for Heaven. From the time John left, she was lighthearted in a sweet Heaven-hopeful state. Even on the night he passed away, she didn’t know he had died, but around the time of his passing, her daughter-in-love, Katy, found her going around the house ringing her bells from her bell collection. Vivian seemed to know in her spirit that John had gone to Heaven.
She was born on November 3, 1936, in Aberdeen, WA to Elmer and Doris Liedes. Joining her at birth was her identical twin sister, Velma Jean (Cole), both weighing a little more than 2 lbs. They fought to survive and their fireball busy personalities were so evident. Vivian and Velma loved being twins and were proudly the first-born sisters of siblings Kathy (Liedes) Kling, Kenny Liedes, Tommy Jaasko, Cheryl (Craft) Hanson, Les Craft, Don Craft, and a cousin who was as close as a sister, Wanda Knannlein Echigo.
Vivian graduated in 1954 from Franklin High School and went on to study at a secretarial school. She worked as an administrative assistant for many years at Boeing, culminating with working for Vice-Presidents. In the middle of her Boeing career, she took a break to work for the Edmonds School District Athletic Director, Bellevue Christian Schools, a sub-contractor for the Satsop Nuclear plant, finally retiring from Boeing. Her favorite part of work was doing “This is Your Life” parties for retirees at Boeing and helping others find jobs. Many of her personal hours were spent typing up resumes while loving on and connecting talented people to jobs.
In 1957 she married Dan Barkley, and they had three children, Carla (Barkley) Wood of Boise, ID, Carolyn (Barkley) Fitch of Millersville, MD and Matthew Barkley of Post Falls, ID. Dan and Vivian were married for 24 years. In 1984 she met and fell in love with John Clark at Kent Church of the Nazarene, and they were married on March 31, 1985. John and Vivian joyfully blended their two families together, and Vivian became a second mom to Candice (Clark) Woodall of Orting, WA and Garren Clark of Orting, WA. They had 31 wonderful years together. John and Vivian also were blessed with 3 sons-in-law - Gary, Chris & Paul, 2 daughters-in-law - Katy and Marcii, plus 14 grandchildren - Shawn, Taylor, Drew, Bethany, Benjamin, Alysa, Sean, David, Jordyn, Emily, JP, Kaitlyn, Molly, and Maddi plus 1 great-grandchild, Josie and since then, another 2, Lincoln and Warren, and another one on the way, of which, they would be infinitely proud.
Vivian loved to sing in her church choir and teach Sunday School. Vivian and John enjoyed hosting Bible studies in their home, and she was a faithful prayer warrior. She never knew a stranger and loved connecting with people as well as helping at her churches in any way she could. She encouraged her children in their school activities, especially music. However, her greatest gift she gave to her children and grandchildren was pointing them to Jesus as the only One who can help us walk in peace and perfect love through the roller coasters of life’s sorrows and joys. We are so thankful that she is walking with Him and our other loved ones in Heaven.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, John, both her parents, her sister, Cheryl, and one grandson, Taylor Wood, whom she couldn't wait to see again in Heaven.
The family would like to thank Bethel Church of the Nazarene and Hospice for all their love and support in the illness and passing of our mom. We want to give special thanks to our brother, Garren, and his wife, Katy Clark, who so lovingly cared for Mom in the last three months of her life.
