Tom Boyd, known to most as Tom or Tommy, and lovingly called Dad by his children and Pop by his grandchildren, passed away on November 7, 2025. Born in New Hampshire on October 6, 1948, Tom lived his life between the Outer Cape, Colorado, New Hampshire, and spent his later years in Falmouth, Massachusetts, with his loving wife, Martha.
From a young age, Tom had a deep and enduring love for boats, cars, and hockey. He had boats for as long as anyone can remember, including a little boat given to him by his father when he was very young, which he would take out on the Pamet to go fishing. As an older kid, more in his teens and early twenties, he was especially fond of classic Chevrolets and was known to have at least one ’55 or ’57 Chevy. His two children, Rebecca and Kevin, can recall that he played hockey so much in his 20s that they thought he played for the Boston Bruins.
Tom was a highly accomplished auto and boat mechanic, known for his ability to understand and restore anything with an engine. At the age of 56, he earned his “captain’s license,” technically called a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer license, because of his love and respect for the ocean and because boating and sport-fishing became his favorite sport as he got older. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. Tom was known as an easy-going, fun, kind, patient, and very hard-working person with a great big laugh. He was very lovable to those close to him and was a devoted father, grandfather, friend, and husband.
Tom suffered a stroke in 2020. He and Martha worked hard together for five years to gain strength and mobility and stay positive, but ultimately Tom suffered from complications, and this was not without a fight.
Tom was predeceased by his brother, George Kimball “Kim” Boyd; his sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Ruth Boyd; and his cherished nephew, Josh Emond. He is survived by his wife, Martha Tracey, of Falmouth, Massachusetts; his daughter, Rebecca Boyd (and her fiancé, Tom) of Boulder, Colorado; his son, Kevin Boyd (and his partner, Mimi) of Boulder, Colorado; his stepson, Sean Tracey (and his wife, Mary) of North Charleston, South Carolina; his stepdaughter, Aileen Railey (and her husband, Kenny) of Cumberland, Rhode Island.
Tom’s beloved grandchildren are Olivia, Nadia, Abigail, Isabella, Ava, Eliana, Sean Michael, Kevin, Gabrielle, Colin, and Tristan. They all loved him so much!
Tom is also survived by his dear brother-in-law, Tom Dickert; his adored niece, Kim Deane; his nephews, Rafe Emond and Seth Emond; and his former wife and mother of his children, Pauline Belanger Boyd Sargeant.
He leaves behind many treasured friends, including Joe Francis, Franny Francis, Forrie Quinn, Carol McCabe, Dean and Rachel Yeaton, Lawrence “Ozzie” and Laura Osborne, Preston and Diane Anderson, and all of his cherished and loved friends at East Marine in Falmouth Harbor.
Dear Tom, Dad, Pop – Thank you for all that you were and all that you gave. You will be loved forever.
A private celebration of life will take place in the summer of 2026.
