Walter Egger

Walter Theodore Egger, 90, of San Diego, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026.

Born to Swiss immigrants Robert Sr. and Emma Egger, Walter was raised on the family dairy alongside his siblings, Robert "Bob" and Mary. He carried on the family legacy as a dairyman with Egger Dairy before later moving downtown with his wife, Marianne, where they became the first residents of the Harbor Club. Together, they embraced city life—walking with Walkabout San Diego, ballroom dancing, attending plays, and spending special time with their grandchildren at the Children's Museum.

Walter remained deeply connected to his Swiss heritage as a lifelong member of the San Diego Swiss Club. A passionate musician, he played multiple instruments and sang in church choirs at St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, as well as with the Sun Harbor Chorus, his Barbershop Quartet, and the San Diego Swiss Singers.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marianne. Walter is survived by his children Glenn (Rory), Simone (John), and Bruce (Crystal), 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. We take comfort in knowing Walter is reunited with Marianne—already swing dancing together again.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 24 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 990 Saturn Blvd, San Diego. A Celebration of Life will follow at Swiss Park in Chula Vista.
