Walter Leonard "Len" Faseler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026 surrounded by his wife and five daughters. Born March 13, 1941 to Walter and Virginia Faseler in Port Arthur, TX, he graduated from Pasadena High School as a National Merit Scholar. This earned him a full ride scholarship to Southern Methodist University, where he was on the track team and editor of the school newspaper. Upon graduation, Len served four years in the United States Marines and served as a Combat Correspondent Officer during the Vietnam War where he oversaw 23 correspondents and collected numerous hours of video from the war. After returning from Vietnam, Len completed his Masters and PhD at Texas A&M University and then earned a law degree from South Texas College of Law. While he practiced family law for 36 years before retiring, he loved computer programming, writing books and poetry, and playing his dobro.
Len, a divorced father to his two daughters, Ashley and Kendall, met Bonny at the University of Houston in the education building. He offered to walk her across campus to another building, and from that simple moment everything changed. Four days later they were engaged, and then married two months later. They spent 47 years together and welcomed three daughters, Kylie, Keegan and Kelsey.
Len never met a stranger; he could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and anytime. He had a story for just about everything, and somehow they almost always led back to his family. They were the subject he loved most, the part of his life he was proudest of, and the center of nearly every memory he shared.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Bonny; daughter Ashley Casselberry, daughter and son-in-law Kendall and Danny Hiser, daughter and son-in-law Kylie and Ryan Russell, daughter and son-in-law Keegan and Ryan Smith, daughter and son-in-law Kelsey and Patrick Fraley; five grandsons- Hayden, Tanner and Landry Russell and Camden and Landon Smith; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Virginia Faseler and his sister, Doris Jeanne Homeyer.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Len is now at rest and no longer in any pain. His legacy is one of love and generosity, carried forward by his family and by all those whose lives he helped shape.
The family gratefully requests that any memorial donations be made in his name to the
Dementia Society of America.
