Walter (Wally) Lewis Hamilton, 83, of Texas City, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Born on May 6, 1942, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Wally was the son of Ruth Fling Hamilton and Walter Hamilton. He graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was primarily stationed in Japan.
After returning home, Wally worked in various service roles before finding his true niche in Construction Procurement. His career in construction took him around the world, allowing him to live a life filled with adventure. He was truly a "rolling stone that gathered no moss." Upon retirement, he embraced a "quieter" life, traveling across the United States to visit family and loved ones.
Wally loved playing cards, golfing, and watching every sport imaginable. He was deeply loved and will be remembered for his devotion to family, his sense of humor, the pearls of wisdom he so freely shared, and the larger-than-life presence he brought into the lives of all who knew him. He never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his friend, devoted wife, and caregiver, Sylvia, of Texas City, Texas; his children, Tammy (John) McLaughlin of Millinocket, Maine, Brandi (Scott) Newbury of Wickenburg, Arizona, and Traci (Scott) McGowan of Topock, Arizona; Stepchildren Valerie ( Stecker Fulmer and Ron Stecker, nine fantastic grandchildren; eleven beautiful great-grandchildren; his sister, Carole (Hamilton) Doughty of Florida; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in heaven by his mother, Ruth Hamilton; his father, Walter Hamilton; his sister Linda Diaz, and beloved wife, Betty Hamilton.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the life he lived and the memories we will carry forward. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. His last words were, "Live life," and that is exactly what we intend to do.
Join us for a celebration of life either in Texas or Maine; dates will be announced at a later time.
