Walter Novak, 93, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026. A devoted husband, educator, and Navy veteran, Walter lived a life defined by service and a passion for learning.
Walter shared nearly 70 years of marriage with the love of his life, Louise. Together, they built a lasting family legacy. He is survived by Louise; his children, Gregory, Matthew, and Catherine, and their spouses; ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Veronica (Novak) Parker.
A graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Walter earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Anselm College and a Master of Science from Boston College. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he dedicated over 30 years to Portsmouth High School as a physics teacher and later as Assistant Principal. He was widely respected for his steady leadership and integrity.
At home, Walter was a talented "putterer" who loved fixing and building. His happiest moments were spent with family at their camp on Clemons Pond in Hiram, Maine.
Services: Visiting hours are Monday, Jan. 12, 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Farrell Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
American Cancer Society in honor of Walter Novak.
