Walter Joseph Owiesny, age 74, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on April 13, 2026.
Born on June 21, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, Walter was a graduate of Riverside High School in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in 1974 and later received a Master’s degree from DePaul University.
Walter built a distinguished career in information technology, holding numerous roles throughout his professional life. He served as a systems analyst and IT manager for several organizations, including BearingPoint, the BlueCross BlueShield Association, Edison Group, and Wheels. His dedication, skill, and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Outside of his professional life, Walter was an avid runner and a devoted student of Civil War history. He was civically engaged and a frequent supporter of local Democratic candidates. Walter was known for his kindness, his love of dogs, and the deep bond he shared with his family—especially his brother, whom he considered his best friend.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Jayne Elizabeth (Schenk) Owiesny; his brother, Alan Owiesny and his wife, Linda; his sister, Karen Tyler and her husband, Dave; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aloysius Owiesny; his mother, Betty (Winegarden) Owiesny; and his sister, Susan Owiesny.
A private memorial service will be held.
