Walter L. Toney

Walter Lenard Toney was born November 22, 1966, in Hammond, Indiana to Walter L. Toney and Nellie Marie Toney (McClure). He graduated from Lew Wallace High School and spent most of his life using his hands and heart to help anyone that he could. This included putting roofs on home, painting interiors and exteriors of homes and any general maintenance that was needed. He spent the later years doing custodial care. All of these were done with love and care. He was always willing to help others because that was the type of person he was.

Walter was preceded in death by his father. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Nellie Toney. His children, Kandace (Leon) Toney-Hanna, Walter Toney III, Keith Toney and Keisha Wheeler, siblings who he called his Angels, Carla, Angela (Adolphus), Lisa and Kimberly (Michael). He also has 11 grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and other family and friends. He will definitely be missed by his life-long friend Kurt Navarro.

Walter did not like saying good-bye, so this is just night night.

Visitation, Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All services at the Guy & Allen Chapel 2959 West 11th Avenue Gary, Indiana 46404. Elder Vincent Williams officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
