Walter "Max" Travis died peacefully in Casselberry Florida on March 18th 2026 at the age of 81. Walter, sometimes known as Max or Wally, was born on January 10th in 1945 in Rural Valley Pennsylvania. The youngest of 29 brothers and sisters, Max's family lived in tough conditions, but they grew resilience and still maintain their bond through yearly reunions which often are so large they take up a state park. Through Max's rural upbringing came a love for fishing and hunting which he enjoyed throughout his lifetime.
Max was a Vietnam veteran, serving on the Miles C. Fox through which he traveled the world in different ports during his service. Max was honorably discharged due to the birth of his son Ryan, but he continued to serve his country through the National Guard and Army Reserve. Through the service, Max found his love for cooking which eventually led to a career working for DYS as the kitchen manager at the Judge Connolly Youth Center for 22 years. He retired and moved to Florida with his then wife Edith who passed away from cancer in 2011. Max found love again a few years later and married Dolores who sadly passed away in 2022. Max was always full of life, cracking terrible jokes, preferring to find the humor in life than dwelling on our struggles. He worked hard all his life; he was a meter reader for the light company in Belmont Mass and was an owner operator for Keegan Taxi with his first wife Joanne in the 70s, all long before he found his career with DYS.
Max is survived by his son Ryan, grandsons Elliot and Andrew, and siblings Fred "Forrest" Travis, Mary Ann Pierce. Bertha Mumau, Rodney, Bob and Bill Travis.
Max will be laid to rest with full military honors on April 20th at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Connery Ave in Bourne Massachusetts.
