Wayne Eugene "Gene" Call went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 20, 2026. He was
born in Canon City, CO, on November 11, 1952, to Charles and Ethel Call. He grew up in the small
town of Bladen, Nebraska. He went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln
(BS-Agriculture) and the Dallas Theological Seminary (MS-Divinity). He and his brother created Call
Brothers Construction and Realty, adding to the Lincoln (NE) landscape for several years. Gene went
on to build in Arizona, New Hampshire, and, most recently, North Carolina. Gene was involved in
various nonprofits and ministries that were geared toward helping improve the lives of others. He
pastored small-town churches, led an inner-city ministry for children in Dallas, TX, and has been a
foster parent. He left pastoring and went on to minister to people through his work, hiring men who
needed mentoring. For the last few years, he was very involved with A Hand Up, the nonprofit he
began to help people in need, especially the homeless. His dream was to create a village of tiny
homes centered around comprehensive social service providers and resources. Most of all, he
wanted others to know Jesus as their Savior so they could experience an eternity in Heaven too.
He enjoyed laughing, singing, being around family, friends, and good food. He goes before his wife of
26 years, Debra Call, daughters Stephanie Call-Boettger (Steven), Angie Call, and stepdaughter
Mary Bobotas (Matt), his grandchildren, whom he adored, Nathaniel Call, Lily Penn, Alannah Gordon,
Noah Bobotas, Harper Bobotas, and Kadin Bobotas. He leaves his four sisters, one brother, their
families, numerous friends, and extended family. A celebration of his life will be held at Wendell
Baptist Church in Wendell, NC, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visitation
beforehand at the church from 9-10:30 a.m.
Donations in Gene's memory can be made to A Hand Up, c/o Melanie Paul, Chairperson, 3013
