Mr. Wayne Edward Hohl passed away on January 18, 2026, in Ottawa, Kansas, at the age of 89. Born on November 29, 1936, in Alden, Kansas, Wayne lived a life marked by creativity, intellect, and an unwavering dedication to his many passions.

Wayne grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, alongside his parents Frank and Alta, his sister Reva, and his brother Larry. From an early age, he demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for design and problem-solving—skills that would shape the course of his life.

He pursued higher education at the University of Kansas, where he majored in industrial design. His academic excellence was recognized when he was named "Outstanding Senior" in 1968. A Rhodes Scholar and lifelong learner, Wayne's intellectual curiosity never waned; he continually sought knowledge and new challenges throughout his life.

Professionally, Wayne wore many hats with distinction. He worked as an engineer, industrial designer, and architect—fields in which he left a lasting mark. His architectural work included designing homes as well as a ski lodge in Vail, Colorado. His artistic talents extended beyond architecture; he was also an accomplished artist who created intricate drawings, whimsical cartoons, and expressive wood sculptures. Whether with pencil or chisel in hand, Wayne brought imagination to life.

Wayne proudly served in the Army National Guard—a testament to his sense of duty and commitment to service.

A true renaissance man, Wayne could design, build, or repair nearly anything. He single-handedly built an addition onto his home and crafted decks and a tranquil Koi pond that reflected both his skill and love of nature. His hands were rarely still; they were always building something meaningful.

Wayne's hobbies were as dynamic as his professional pursuits. He was an avid skier who embraced the thrill of the slopes; a sailor who found peace on the water; and a golfer who enjoyed the challenge of the game. Wayne was talented photographer who always had a Nikon in his hands. His mechanical know-how meant there was little he couldn't fix or improve.

Beyond all accomplishments stood Wayne's deep love for animals—especially dogs—and for those closest to him. He was known as a warm and caring man whose affection for family ran deep.

Wayne is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Theresa Hohl, his children Kathleen McGrath and John McGrath, his son-in-law, Dan Besco, and grandson, Kass Andersen and his partner, Spike Springe. Wayne also had two son's from a previous marriage, Kevin and Greg Hohl, as well as their children and grandchildren.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who value creativity, kindness, and craftsmanship. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 24, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 06:00 PM at Kathleen's House at 940 S. Cedar Street, Ottawa, KS. Please drop by to pay your respects.
