Wayne Howland Holleman Jr., affectionately known as "Hal," passed away on January 22, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 77. Born on October 31, 1948, in Polo, Missouri, Wayne lived a life marked by service, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
A proud American and Vietnam veteran, Wayne served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969. His time in the military left an indelible mark on him and shaped his lifelong commitment to supporting fellow veterans. He carried the values of duty and camaraderie with him throughout his life, often sharing stories and his "pearls of wisdom" that inspired those around him.
Wayne was known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. He could often be found hanging at "The Shop" with friends, relaxing by the lake or finding his peace in the clouds in his single engine plane. His spirited anecdotes were legendary among those who knew him best. He often enjoyed visiting the Monfore side of the family in South Dakota where he loved hunting pheasants with his boys. A man of simple pleasures, Wayne enjoyed his daily rituals—Pall Mall cigarettes in hand and a Starbucks coffee nearby—as much as he cherished deep conversations and quiet moments with family. Wayne was a very proud veteran, family man, provider, pilot, and matriarch to the family. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
He was a loving and supportive presence in the lives of many. Wayne is remembered by his family as both proud and humble—a man who encouraged them to slow down through life's moments. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his generosity and strength.
Wayne leaves behind a devoted family: his sister, Roxanna Craft (Larry); sons, Wayne Holleman III (Paula Kuntz) and David Dutton; daughter, Jessica Mann "Star"; former spouse and mother of his children, Diane Rathburn (Al); grandchildren Roscoe Mann, Aleaha Mann, Grace Holleman, Emma Holleman, Wayne Holleman IV "Cam," Michael Esposito, and Maxwell Esposito; great-grandson Walker Combs; niece Audra Schoen (Brian); nephew Theodore Craft (Sheila Woeste); and his beloved pets Bullet and Alley Cat. He was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of another great-grandson, Mateo Esposito.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda Holleman; parents Wayne Holleman Sr. and Dorris Holleman; and grandchildren Quincey and Jerry Manns.
