Wayne Victor Sousa, 86, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, in Modesto, California. A devoted father, proud veteran, and dedicated medical professional, Wayne lived a life marked by service, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his community.
Born on January 19, 1939, in Oakland, California, Wayne was the son of Victor and Margret Sousa. He grew up in Modesto and graduated from Modesto High School before continuing his education at Modesto Junior College. He later earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanislaus State University—an academic journey that reflected his lifelong dedication to learning and excellence.
Wayne served honorably in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965 as a hospital corpsman. His service took him to Yokohama, Japan, and aboard several naval ships. This experience laid the foundation for a distinguished career in healthcare that spanned four decades. As a medical technologist, Wayne worked primarily at Miller Laboratory and St. Joseph Hospital in Stockton. His meticulous work and deep care for patients left a lasting impact on colleagues and the many lives he touched through his profession.
Beyond his career, Wayne was deeply involved in his faith and community. A founding member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, he served faithfully as a lector for many years and participated actively in ministries such as the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul. His commitment to service extended beyond borders—he was an enthusiastic member of the Rotary Club and helped build schools in Mexico, embodying the spirit of giving wherever he went.
Wayne's warmth was unmistakable—his big smile lit up every room he entered, often accompanied by a joke or story that brought laughter to those around him. He had a generous heart and an infectious joy that endeared him to friends old and new.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: daughters Nancy Campbell (Mark), Karen Henriquez (Nelson), Teresa (Brian), Carrie (Steven); sons Patrick Loschke (Juli) and Michael Loschke; along with 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of love and laughter.
Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara; second wife Beverley; sons Brian Sousa and Steven Loschke; brothers Steve Sousa and Ron Sousa; and his parents Victor and Margret Sousa.
Wayne will be remembered for his boundless generosity, steadfast faith, joyful spirit, and enduring devotion to family and community. May he rest in peace knowing he made the world brighter for all who knew him.
