Wellington Hale Love passed away peacefully at his home in South Pasadena, on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Wellington was born on December 4, 1926 and grew up in Los Angeles, California. He graduated early from Fairfax High School, and with his parents' permission, in 1944 he joined the Navy at seventeen. He was a proud member of the USS Manila Bay, and the USS Prince William. When his service was up, and thanks to the GI Bill, Wellington was excited to go home and continue his education at the University of Southern California. While attending USC, he joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and became a part of the brotherhood that he would cherish for the rest of his life.
Wellington met his first wife, Carolyn Cooper, while in high school. The pair worked together at the Farmers Market. They were married in 1950 and spent thirty-eight wonderful years raising four children together, before Carolyn lost her battle with cancer.
Wellington always had a mindset for Community, and the betterment of it, even at a young age he was driven to make things better. In high school he was awarded The American Legion Certificate of School Award, "honoring those students who possessed Honor, Courage, Scholarship, Leadership and Service." As a young man Wellington was very active in his local Kiwanis Club, and the Masonic Temple of San Gabriel. He enjoyed volunteering on various political campaigns, as well, so much so, he eventually ran his own race and won a seat on the San Gabriel Water Board, a position that he very proudly held for over forty years. This new role led him on to work in Sacramento, where he would spend more than four decades working in the capacity of State Senate Attaché.
It was while working for the State Senate that he met the second love of his life, Sylvard Garrison. The two were married and spent nearly thirty years together until Sylvard passed in 2016.
Wellington was preceded in death by his son, Timothy, and is survived by his sons Jonathan, and Patrick (Lisa), daughter Melissa (Pat), sister Linda, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Wellington's life was full and fulfilling. For ninety-nine years he graced the lives of so many friends and family members. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Wellington will be remembered on Saturday, January 24th, at 11: am at Holy Family Church, 1501 Fremont Avenue, So. Pasadena. Interment will be held privately.
