Worcester- Wells W. Whitney, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA after a long battle of chronic kidney disease and congestive heart failure.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Whitney of Worcester, Massachusetts and six living children: Mary Whitney (Daughter in Worcester, Massachusetts), Christopher and Andrea Whitney (Son and Daughter-in-Law of East Greenwich, Rhode Island), Scott and Kristyn Whitney (Son and Daughter-in-Law of Barrington, Rhode Island), Julie Whitney (Daughter in New York, New York), Jennifer Whitney Abrahamson and Peter Abrahamson (Daughter and Son-in-Law of Lake Villa, Illinois), and Glenn Whitney (Son of Spring, Texas). He was predeceased by his twin brother Murdock Whitney of Flagler Beach, Florida and sons David Whitney of Sarasota, Florida and Wells Webster Whitney Jr "Skip" of Kirkland, Washington.

Wells was born on November 3, 1931 in Nashua, New Hampshire. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1960. Wells was truly a jack of all trades. He owned a box factory called Charlton Mills in Charlton, Massachusetts for many years and ran an indoor flea market in Plymouth, Massachusetts for quite some time too. In his later years, he decided to switch to a career in transportation, which included working for Knight's Limousine Service and AA Transportation.

One of the things that people loved most about Wells was his sense of humor, it was truly like no other. His sense of humor and personality also swept his wife Gloria off of her feet in church choir and it was truly love at first sight. Wells loved to travel and always was especially fond of coastal areas near the ocean such as Cape Cod in Massachusetts and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He also loved to read, always having a book in hand during his free time. Wells was very dependable, a true family man who valued commitments deeply and loved to help others.

Relatives and friends will be invited to attend a celebration of life for Wells at Lake View Congregational Church 115 Coburn Ave Worcester, MA 01604. Details on that are to come. In addition, a private memorial service will be held for family only at a later date. Wells' final wishes were to be cremated and buried alongside his father William Whitney that he truly adored in Winchendon, Massachusetts.
