Wendell "Chub" Ray Gray, 68, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 9, 2026, after a brief illness.
Wendell was born December 3, 1957 in Jackson, MS.
Wendell was a true musician and singer, who was active in the theater industry in his younger years. He took leads in several plays in high school and was taught and directed by his favorite drama teacher, Miss Frances McGuffey. He also played guitar, wrote songs and sang in Nashville, TN for a while. He had an incredible talent as a sound engineer in churches, for live bands and in studios throughout his lifetime. His all-time favorite band was Lynyrd Skynyrd, with whom he worked as part of the stage crew in the 70's.
Wendell followed in the footsteps of his father and owned his own construction company in the late 80's. He also owned a BBQ restaurant & was an incredible pit master!
Wendell will be remembered for his love of our Lord, Jesus Christ, his keen sense of humor and his kind, loving heart. He loved watching his grandson, Garner, play baseball & spending as much time as he could loving on his kids & grandkids!
