Wilbert Wayne Burchfield

Wilbert Wayne Burchfield, age 87, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at his home in Rusk, Texas. He was born on September 19, 1938, in Ector, Texas, son of Charlie Clifford and Magella Stillwell Burchfield. Wayne lived a full and meaningful life rooted in dedication to his family, his work, and his faith.

Wayne devoted over 50 years of his professional life to Toyota and the automobile industry where he was known for his strong work ethic, mentorship and steadfast commitment. His long tenure with the company reflected not only his reliability but also the pride he took in doing a job well.

Outside of work, Wayne found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid golfer and fisherman who cherished time spent outdoors. Whether casting a line or walking the fairway, these hobbies brought him peace and connection with nature. Yet above all else, it was time with loved ones that mattered most to him.

Wayne was a devoted member of Adams Chapel Methodist Church in Bulah, where he found spiritual strength and community. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his four brothers, Virgil, C.B., Clifton and Clovis and three sisters, Ellen, Marjorie and Barbara.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte; his children, Lisa Cowan and husband Mike, David Burchfield and wife Sheila, and Lynnette Nielsen and husband Erik; his 5 grandchildren, Jimmy Wayne, Tia, Shelby, Ryan & Leland; and his 5 great grandchildren, Maddi, Aiden, Charlie, Tarzan and April Lea. Wayne’s legacy lives on through them and through all who were fortunate to know him.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Wayne will be deeply missed. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Memorial Gathering will be held on March 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Rusk First United Methodist Church, 255 Henderson Ave., Rusk, TX 75785. Lunch will be served immediately following the service.
