Wilder Smallcanyon Jr., 89, of Nenahnezad, NM , passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Wilder was born on March 18, 1937, in Navajo Mountain, AZ. Was born to Nelly Manygoats of the clan Tóhdich'íínii shi chei Tlízilaní and Wilder Smallcanyon Sr of the clan Áshihí shi Nálii Tábaahí. Wilder lived a life rooted in service, community, and dedication to others.
He is survived by his wife Marie Smallcanyon and daughters, Lorraine Smallcanyon, Debbie Smallcanyon (Darrell), Dale Smallcanyon (Sam), Christine Padilla (Marvin), and Omajean Taylor (Leon), and his son, Eric Smallcanyon. And many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Gary Smallcanyon and Samuel Smallcanyon, as well as beloved grandchildren January Scott, John Silversmith, Kyle Mason and Raymie Benny
Wilder was deeply committed to helping the younger generation. He spent many years supporting youth in his community, including time at Nenahnezad Boarding School, where he made a lasting impact. He also volunteered as a coach for basketball, track, boy-scouts and softball, sharing his guidance, encouragement, and strong spirit with countless young people.
He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to his family, and the positive influence he had on his community. His legacy lives on in all those he mentored and loved.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
