William “Bill” Martin Esquibel, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away on December 11, 2025, in Glendale, Arizona. Bill was born on November 3, 1962, in Denver, Colorado, and was 63 years old. He was surrounded by the love of his family when he died.
Dedicated Service
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1986. Though his time in the Army was short, the experience was profoundly impactful to him. Following his honorable discharge, he dedicated over two and a half decades to community safety, serving the Denver Sheriff Department from 1987 until his retirement in 2013. During his 26-year career, Bill distinguished himself in various demanding roles, including service on the SWAT team, correctional duty in the jail facilities, and oversight at the impound lot.
Bill also embraced brotherhood outside of work. He joined a motorcycle club with fellow law enforcement officers in 2007. Known by his friends as “Lepricano,” he rode with this club for several years until he sold his bike to move to Santa Fe and marry Jeannie.
Outside of these commitments, Bill was an avid sports fan. He found deep enjoyment and camaraderie managing his fantasy football team. He also enjoyed tinkering and maintaining his home.
Family and Legacy
Bill’s greatest joy was his large and loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannie Gallegos-Esquibel.
Bill was the son of Bill Benjamin Esquibel and the late Jane (Lammie) Esquibel. He is also survived by his father's long term spouse, Eleanor.
Bill was a devoted and loving patriarch. He is survived by his children, Brandi Westheimer (Josh) and William Michael “Billy Esquibel (Vanessa). He was a deeply loving father figure to Anthony Saiz and Anastasia Saiz, whom he raised from a very young age through young adulthood. He also became a supportive stepfather to Kris Gallegos and Tim Gallegos (Erin), stepping into a crucial parental role when they lost their own father. Bill loved and treated all his children as his own.
He took immense pride in his six grandchildren: Lyla, Ella, Ava, Louis, Asher, and Aston. One of his greatest joys was spending time with them, and his greatest sadness has been to have his time with them cut short.
He is also survived by his two younger sisters: Brenda Esquibel, widow of the late Bill Lovato, and Rebecca Archuleta and her husband, Andrew Archuleta. Already a close-knit family, their connections to one another only grew stronger over the years.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Jane (Lammie) Esquibel, and his brother-in-law, Bill Lovato.
