William Henry Fletcher left this life on December 6, 2025 as he had lived his 98 years, with courage, grace and dignity. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a trusted comrade and valued colleague, leader and friend. He had a deep Christian faith and a compassionate heart.

He is survived by his daughters, Georganne Fletcher Honeycutt (Ken) and Laurie Fletcher (Gerry Wood), grandchildren, Claire Fletcher Honeycutt (Venn), Graham Fletcher Honeycutt (Heather), Carlyn Fletcher-Wood Berger (Danny) and Peyton Fletcher Wood. His legacy lives on in his great-grandchildren Arya, Ainsley, Hailey, Maya, Caroline, Felicity and Fletcher. He is also survived by his nephew, Steve Alston, niece, Gayle Alston, as well as great niece and nephew, Stephanie Suzanne Lee and Ryan Thomas Lee. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilynn Tanner Fletcher, great-granddaughter, Mikayla Yopp Honeycutt, and niece and nephews, Suzanne McNeil Lee, Robert Lee Bass and Don Fletcher McNeil.

William was born on June 2, 1927 and grew up in Parrott, Georgia with his brother, Harold, and sisters, Emma, Marian and Mary Sue. His father, Carl Clinton Fletcher, was a pharmacist and his mother, Susie Cook Fletcher, was an accomplished musician. Music was ever present in the Fletcher home, and William was the tenor in the family chorus. He was a gifted singer and was also known for his whistling. As an infant, he was introduced to Marilynn Tanner who was to become his best friend and the great love of his life. He was an exceptional student and a hard worker. His first job was riding his bicycle throughout Parrott delivering the morning newspaper.

Upon high school graduation in 1944, he enlisted in the U. S. Army at 17 years of age and served in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He was assigned to a unit which completed topographical studies of Japan under the direction of Stewart Alsop. The knowledge he gained and the people he knew in Japan greatly influenced his ambitions. Upon leaving the service, he pursued his college education graduating with an engineering degree from the University of Georgia. He and Marilynn were married on September 4, 1948. Their family moved several times during his tenure with Southern Railway, and they settled in Annandale, Virginia in 1963. William earned his M.B.A. from George Washington University and continued his distinguished career in the Department of Transportation. He concluded his career with the National Transportation Safety Board where he led teams investigating railway accidents.

Upon retirement, William and Marilynn made their home in Peachtree City, Georgia where they enjoyed travel, entertaining and frequent visits from their grandchildren. William always found ways to be engaged with his community by preparing taxes for senior citizens and serving as an election poll worker. "Mimi and Willi" maintained a beautiful home and garden and frequently hosted family and friends. They watched baseball and football and were ardent fans of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs! Throughout their marriage of 69 years, they were deeply devoted to each other.

After Marilynn died in 2018, William moved to Garden Plaza in Lawrenceville where he made many friends and served on the Residents Council. He loved his card games, his coffee group in the Bistro and the staff. He remained curious, always exploring new ideas and keeping up with technology. What a treat it was to exhibit his new expertise on FaceTime with his great-grandchildren.

He was a positive and happy spirit and loved to end his conversations with "Now do something for me, have fun!" He was a joy and a blessing to many. The family will be planning a celebration of life at a later date.
