On February 4, 2026, Dr. William E. Good Jr., 83, passed away peacefully at his Durham, NC home surrounded by family.

William was born on July 2, 1942 to Dr. William E. Good Sr. and Carolyn Dyson Good while in Murrysville, PA. He spent many of his childhood years in NY state before ultimately moving to Boston, MA where he lived the majority of his adult life. William spent his retirement years in Durham, NC.

A Dr. in Physical Chemistry, William received his BA from Kalamazoo College, and his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). William proudly devoted his entire career as a Professor of Physical Chemistry at Suffolk University in Boston, MA where he also served for a period of time as the Chemistry Department chair. Upon his retirement, William was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus, Chemistry & Biochemistry by Suffolk University.

William enjoyed tinkering with computers, digitizing old family movies from film, and collecting and watching movies on the latest media, but his largest passion was for music. Developing a working knowledge of the Harpsichord, Piano, Viola da Gamba, and other instruments, William found a home with both viola and voice. While often playing chamber music with friends on his viola, William sang baritone voice with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, performing with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops.

William was predeceased by his companion of many years; his father, William Good Sr.; mother, Carolyn Dyson Good; step mother, Antoinette “Tudy” Good; and brother, Gary Good.

William is survived by his sister, Cynthia Good; brothers, Richard and Greg Good; Sister-in-law, Amy; cousins, Terry (Joanna) Good and Ginnie (John) Warner; Nephews, Christopher (Julie) Good, Jonathan (Rosemarie) Good, and Tristan (Rebecca Levy) Nelson; niece, Mallory Nelson; grand nieces, Brittany Good, Isabella Good, Daphne Nelson, and Peyton Good; and grand nephew, Mac Good.

William loved his family and his friends more than anything in the world. He challenged everyone around him to be curious and inquisitive about their world and about the things they enjoy. Everyone who knew William said that he was the kindest man they ever knew.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
