William Arthur Healy Jr., age 75, passed away on February 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on August 29, 1950, in Danbury, CT to William Arthur Healy Sr. and Gertrude (Markey) Healy. After graduating from Immaculate High School in 1968, he earned a BS in Economics from St. Michael’s College in Vermont, famously driving back and forth up Rte. 7 in the 1956 Porsche Speedster he had purchased while still in high school. That unique car became the centerpiece of a lifelong passion and notable collection of antique Porsches. Between classes, Bill could be found racing downhill on various ski teams.
Bill's love for old barns led to his first work as a carpenter, and in the 1970's he co-founded Beam Construction with a close friend, specializing in the moving and rebuilding of antique barns and historic structures. His passion for moving heavy and complex objects drew public attention and led to the founding of Healy Crane Service. Known for his precision, patience, and extraordinary attention to detail, Bill developed a reputation for executing difficult and delicate crane “picks,” from large intricate sculptures to reclaimed and newly crafted post-and-beam buildings. His love of cranes took him as far as Europe, and he generously shared his knowledge through mentorship, shaping the careers of others in the field.
During his early years, Billy was deeply involved in the emerging sport of skydiving in Gardner and Stormville, NY. He logged more than 500 jumps and participated in some of the largest free-fall formations of that time. The friendships formed with his jumping crew lasted a lifetime, even after he hung up his parachute for good upon the birth of his daughter Anna Louise, also known in town as "Bill Healy's daughter". Bill built a house for the growing Healy family and they spent their summers with their close friends at Ball Pond in Danbury for many years. Later, Billy could be found at the family cottage, "yellow house" in Narragansett RI, captaining his beloved Boston Whaler as he ferried family, friends, and pets to the beach. Always ready to lend a hand, he became known among fellow boaters for fixing engines, offering advice, and rescuing stranded vessels. Bill’s happiest days were simple ones — sunshine, ocean air, family nearby, and a lobster boil to end the day.
Bill shared a special and devoted bond with his daughter Christy Rose, who lived with and lovingly cared for him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Suzanne (Dolan); his brother, Robert; his daughters, Christy and Anna (Zahner) and her husband Shawn; his cherished grandchildren, Leila and Lukas; and his nieces Robyn, Heather and Melissa; his sister-in-law Kathy Dolan (Karen) and his brother-in-law Jimmy Dolan (Andrea).
Bill will be remembered for his calm and laid back personality and his craftsmanship, adventurous spirit, generosity, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the structures he built, the people he mentored and helped, and the many lives he touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21st at 11am at St. Mary Church, 26 Dodgingtown Rd., Bethel, CT. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Midwest Food Bank in Bill’s memory. For online condolences, please visit www.thegreencremation.com.
