William James House, known to all as James, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at the age of 66, in Houston, Texas—the city where his life both began and came full circle.
James was born on April 12, 1959, in Houston, Texas, and spent his life deeply rooted in the community he loved. He grew up in Houston and later made his home in the Houston Heights neighborhood. From an early age, James showed a natural talent and passion for construction and design, earning multiple awards that helped launch a successful and fulfilling career as a Design Engineer with IDS Engineering Group. His professional life was defined by creativity, precision, and pride in his work. He was also a managing partner in the Double H Ostrich and Emu Ranch in Carmine, Texas—an endeavor that reflected both his entrepreneurial spirit and love of animals.
Some of James's fondest memories were made during his youth at the family's beach house in Jamaica Beach, Galveston. Those years were filled with friends, watersports, and a deep love for surfing. His appreciation for animals remained constant throughout his life, and he was rarely without one or more beloved dogs by his side. In his early years, James also practiced martial arts, a discipline that reflected his focus and determination.
James was married to Candice for 26 wonderful years. Together, they shared a life filled with travel, laughter, and time spent with cherished friends and family. One of their most beloved traditions was celebrating Halloween, an event they never missed, especially the annual Halloween party at LaGriglia Restaurant. Their elaborate costumes were legendary, often showcasing James's exceptional design skills and creativity.
Above all, James will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering willingness to help others. He lived with generosity, warmth, and a quiet strength that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
James was educated at Briargrove Elementary School, TH Rogers Junior High, Robert E. Lee High School, St. Thomas Episcopal School, and the University of Houston - member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
James is survived by his beloved wife Candice; his brother Richard House and wife Joan; his sister Susan House Wade; his brother- and sister-in-law Jan and Kevin Burke; his stepdaughter Lynette Joyaux; and his treasured grandchildren Gianna, Jake, and Joey. He is also survived by numerous cousins in California and Florida. James was preceded in death by his parents, June and Albert R. House Jr.
James's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with kindness, creativity, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Memorial Service celebrating James's life will be held on February 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. The service is open to all who wish to honor and remember him.
