Three wonderful grandchildren, whom he loved so much!
Iliana (16 years old) attends Sandia Prep. Grandpa took her to school on Wednesdays, with a little treat to help her make it through a long day of classes and rehearsals. He loved watching her perform in ballet, theatrical productions, and vocal showcases. And, though he didn't really understand it, he was proud that she competed in E-sports and attended her first tournament.
Kieran (9 years old) loves to play hockey and baseball. Grandpa would often go to watch practices and attend hockey tournaments out of town.
Liam (3 years old) loves to play with his trucks, trains, and Zamboni. Grandpa would love to watch him dig and move dirt during Kieran's baseball practices and create ice rinks to Zamboni on the bleachers of hockey practices/games.
Grandpa enjoyed having Kieran and Liam to help him design and plant a garden each year, paint & build gifts for the family, and made sure they came over at least once a week to play and help around the house. He was able to take them fishing where they both caught their first fish.
Sisters, Jeanne McCabe of Gallup, Mary Eleanor Peretti of Gallup, (Damn It) Theresa and husband Steve King of Las Cruces along with numerous nieces and nephews.
William J. McCabe
Born in Gallup, New Mexico, Bill attended St. Francis Grade School, Cathedral High School, and went on to graduate from New Mexico State University with a degree in Accounting/Finance.
After his graduation, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he accepted a job at an accounting firm for a short time. Bill then started working for Bowlin's Inc. in the accounting and computer department in June of 1977. He loved the Bowlin family and all of his coworkers. Bill worked at Bowlin's for 43 years before retiring in 2020. But he just couldn't stay away and ended up helping them off and on until January of 2024.
Bill was also a member of EAGA (Executive Association of Greater Albuquerque) for over 40 years. He was proud to be a member and appreciated all the great friendships he made. He wrote the weekly newsletter for many years up until last year. After becoming an honorary retired member, he began to sit at the "Old Man Table" for the weekly breakfast meetings.
We have wonderful friends who have lived in our circle about as long as we have (47 years). Thank you to Tom & Marcia Bishop and their family.
FRIENDS FROM THE DAY HE WAS BORN - Ann Shibata and son Ron Shibata. Ann and Rosanna (Bill's mom) were roommates in the hospital and Ron was born a few hours before Bill. The two families have been close friends ever since.
How did we get here...Bill went to Santa Fe to see a surgeon about a hernia in late November 2025. The surgeon wanted labs before the surgery. When Bill went to see his primary doctor (also in Santa Fe) she ordered the labs through the emergency room at Christus St. Vincent so they could be completed quickly. The next thing we knew, he had an appointment with an amazing doctor at Christus St. Vincent Regional Cancer Center.
Bill was diagnosed with Leukemia and started treatments in early December. He tolerated the chemo infusions well, but the doctor said they didn't make enough progress. He was changed to a different medication which required him to stay in the hospital for 10 days. That was the first time he had ever been in the hospital as a patient. He tolerated this treatment well too. He didn't experience any of the usual side effects they would normally expect. He was discharged on Monday March 2nd and felt pretty good but got tired easily. He got up every day, got dressed and made breakfast. On Monday, March 9th we were getting ready to go for blood tests. He asked for some help getting ready, which was very unusual. We never made it to the blood tests...
