First Sergeant (Retired) William David Sharon, Sr., passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on January 1, 1941, William—known to everyone as Bill—lived a life defined by service, selflessness, and deep devotion to his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Ann Sharon; his daughters-in-law, Michelle Welsh and Corie Boldt; his grandson, Patrick Hutt; his parents, Eugene and Evelyn Kohler; his brother, Richard Sharon; and his sisters, Betty Whitney and Charlene Maneille.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judith Sharon; his five children with his wife Sylvia - William David Sharon, Jr., and wife Mary Logan; Sandra La Donna Sharon; Sheryl Lynn Sharon; Sharon Lynn Hartman; and Warren Dean Sharon and husband, Daniel Brody. He is also survived by his daughter Patricia Heydenberk and her husband Craig; his son Frederick Hutt; and his stepchildren Michael Davis; Nancy and her husband Paul Kreisle; and Matthew Davis and his partner Angie Gotts.
Bill's grandchildren include Sylvia Ann Hartman and her husband Brandon Russell; Sydney Nicole Hartman; Joshauh and his wife Lily Crown; Kiel Frey; Samuel Hutt; Jane and her husband Brian Hatley; Isabel and her husband Christian Palmer; Cassie Currie; Steven Davis; Hilary and her husband Kyle Leneweaver; Marissa Pownall; Maggie Kreisle; Lucas Kreisle; Christian Pownall; and Tori Davis and her husband Colby Clay.
His great-grandchildren include: Rio, Clementine, and Piper Crown; Emily Frey; Sayge Holman; and Elora and Lyra Hutt.
He is also survived by his sister Sarah Sacksteder, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Bill proudly served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army for 24 years, retiring as a First Sergeant. A combat veteran of two tours in Vietnam, he was awarded two Purple Hearts for wounds received in action. His military service reflected his courage, dedication, and unwavering sense of duty—values he carried throughout his life and passed on to those around him.
Following his military career, Bill worked as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Colorado Springs, CO; Asheville, NC; and Florida, retiring after 20 years of service.
Bill was also the founder of the Sharon A. Lane Memorial Chapter (566) of the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Pensacola, Florida.
An avid bowler, he bowled in leagues for more than 60 years, finding joy, camaraderie, and lifelong friendships through the sport.
Bill will be remembered for his strength, his steadfast commitment to family, and his honorable service to his nation. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he so deeply loved.
Bill will be laid to rest with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on January 31, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
