William Henry Tyda

William Henry Tyda (1945-2026) of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026.

A true Chicagoan, William was a deeply committed member of his community. He graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago and built a distinguished career in banking, which began at Ernst and Ernst as an accountant and ultimately as the President and CEO of LaSalle Talman Bank. Through hard work, integrity, and a collaborative spirit, he rose through the ranks—earning the respect of colleagues, employees, and countless charity boards to which he generously contributed his time and insight. Among the organizations he supported: the Les Turner ALS Foundation, March of Dimes, Boy Scouts of America, Misericordia, and Chicago Catholic Cursillo.

In 1994, William suffered a stroke that would shape the next chapter of his life. With resilience and determination, he became an active participant in his own recovery, working closely with therapists at Northwestern Hospital and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. His experience contributed to ongoing learning and collaboration in stroke rehabilitation, helping others even in the midst of his own challenges.

He shared 59 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sheila, whose unwavering devotion defined their life together. Since his stroke in 1994, she cared for him with extraordinary strength and grace, and together they stood as a shining example of enduring love.

William's leadership and advocacy never waned. In his later years at Saint Benedict Village in Niles, he quickly became a trusted voice for fellow residents, working with staff to improve daily life and ensure others were heard. During his four years at this home away from home, his caregivers and therapists became part of William's extended family. The Tydas are forever grateful for the kindness and compassionate, professional care shown to their beloved father and husband.

A man of deep faith, William was devoted to his Catholic beliefs, which guided him throughout his life. William will be remembered for his kindness, intellect, and unwavering commitment to others. He leaves behind a legacy that made the world a better place.

He is survived by his beloved wife Sheila, daughter Lisa (Neil Hedlund), son David (Lauren), and granddaughters Noa and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his mother Marie Foster, father William Tyda, brother Jerry, and beloved daughter Kimberly.
