William Vaughn Tydeman, lovingly known as Bill, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Auburn, California, at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his loving family and passed away from Jejunum cancer. Bill was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, veteran, retired communications technician, skilled handyman, and a dear friend to many.
Born on August 10, 1946, in San Francisco, California, Bill grew up in San Bruno as the middle child of three sons. His childhood was filled with joy and adventure as he spent countless hours riding his bike and playing at San Bruno Park. During his teenage years, his family relocated to Redwood City, where Bill thrived academically and socially. He graduated from Sequoia High School with fond memories of his time there.
After high school, Bill began working for his family's business, Tydeman Machine Works. In January 1965, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. As a ground support mechanic in the Marines, Bill demonstrated dedication and skill during his military service. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he embarked on a long and successful career with The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company (later known as AT&T). For 30 years, Bill worked as an outside technician before retiring.
While working at the telephone company, Bill met Ellen—and together they built a beautiful life over their 39-year marriage. They blended their families and shared countless adventures together.
In retirement, Bill enjoyed traveling to new places with Ellen and exploring nature through kayaking. A lover of games and cards, he relished spending time with loved ones over friendly competition. One of his most unique hobbies was Kumihimo—a traditional Japanese technique of weaving threads with beads, which he made into lovely necklaces for all.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Ellen; his brother Don Tydeman of Oregon; daughters Jennifer Zimmerman (Tyler) of Nevada and Stephanie Nash of California; sons Charles Hartranft (Angela) of California and Jeremiah Tydeman (Kamiki) of Texas. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren—Riley, Brady, Logan, Hudson, Mia, Seth, Sean, Sierra, and Stephanie—and two great-grandchildren—Samson and Shai—who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
Bill's life was one marked by service to others—whether through his work as a Marine or technician or through the love he poured into his family and friends. His memory will forever be treasured by those who knew him.
May William Vaughn Tydeman's memory bring comfort to all who mourn him.
