William Edgar "Ed" Walker, 83, passed away after a brief illness on February 27, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on August 5, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, Ed lived a life full of love for his family, friends, and career.
Ed graduated from Western Kentucky University, where he was a proud member of the "Thirteeners," a fraternity that later became the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. His passion for learning led him to pursue graduate studies in design and development at the University of Kentucky. This led to a career in real estate development that spanned over four decades and left an indelible mark across multiple states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia.
He was the Vice President of Development for Crescent Resources, St. Joe Commercial, Retail Planning Corporation, and The Landmarks Group. He helped in the development of over 60 major projects. Among these: The Inn at Callaway Gardens, The Opryland Hotel, The King and Queen Towers at Concourse, SunTrust Tower, Concourse Office and Athletic Club, TECO Plaza, Tampa Bay Park, Landmark Center, Promenade II, Phipps Tower in Atlanta’s Buckhead district, and Water Color in Florida. His work not only shaped skylines but also enriched communities.
Ed served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1966 to 1971.
Above all else, Ed cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary Joyce French Walker; two sons: William Kent Walker (Katherine McKinney Walker) of Marietta and Mark Stephen Walker (Catherine Coan Walker) of Roswell; and five grandchildren: Dorothy Elizabeth Walker, William Franklin Walker, William Kent Walker Jr., Mary Mackenzie Walker, and Laurel Frances Walker. Ed’s love for his family was unwavering and will remain a source of strength for those who knew him best.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Harry Frances Walker and Dorothy Davenport Walker as well as his sister Georgia Ann Ferguson.
May his memory bring comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Catholic Church of St. Ann 4905 Roswell Road Marietta, Ga. 30062
