William Spencer Walker, Jr., passed away on January 6, 2026, in Jasper, Alabama, just two days before his 79th birthday. Born on January 8, 1947, in Akron, Alabama, he remained deeply connected to the community where he was born and spent his life. Graveside services were held at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Akron on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Spencer dedicated much of his career to the State of Alabama Department of Transportation, where he worked as a skilled mechanic. After retiring from state service, he operated a small auto and lawnmower repair shop at his home in Akron. His mechanical expertise and dependable nature made him a trusted presence to many who relied on his honest work.
A lifelong Christian, Spencer was a Deacon at Akron Presbyterian Church until services there were discontinued, after which he attended services at New Prospect Bible Church. Even when health concerns prevented him from attending services in person, he remained spiritually engaged through evangelical television programs. His faith was a steadfast source of strength throughout his life.
Spencer also found joy in music, and could be found most Sunday evenings sitting on his front porch playing guitar and singing songs such as James Brown's "Licking Stick" to the passing traffic and anyone else who would listen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Spencer Walker, Sr., and Marguerite Wedgworth Walker. He is survived by his brother, Lee Walker; nieces Beth Miller and Lynn Phillips; nephews Michael Walker and Scott Walker; and one sister; along with those who knew him through church, work, or friendship.
May Spencer's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life marked by quiet dedication and enduring faith.
