William Hunter Weidmann

1951 - 2026

William Hunter "Bill" Weidmann, 75, of East Lyme, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026. Born on January 5, 1951, in Staten Island, New York, Bill lived a life filled with love, creativity, and devotion to his family and friends.

A graduate of Plymouth State University and proud member of TKE Fraternity, Bill was a man of many talents and passions. He was an extraordinary painter who found joy in sharing his artwork with others. His paintings were not merely creations but heartfelt gifts that reflected his generous spirit and artistic soul. Bill also had a deep appreciation for reading and music, and loved watching the UConn Huskies, often immersing himself in these pursuits when he wasn't spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who brought him great joy.

Family was the main cornerstone of Bill's life. He is survived by his devoted wife Diane; their four children—Megan and her spouse Eric, Matthew and his spouse Sanja, Michael, and Daniel and his spouse Krissy; and six cherished grandchildren—Parker, Haley, Jack, Mackenzie, Leo, and Teagan. Bill's love for his family was evident in the special moments he shared with them. Last fall they all gathered together to enjoy time at one of Bill's favorite places - the lakes of New Hampshire. Whether building leprechaun traps with his grandchildren or visiting Renaissance Faires in full character, he brought joy and laughter to those around him. Though he never caught a leprechaun, Bill always considered himself a lucky man because of the love that surrounded him.

Bill's Scottish heritage was a source of immense pride for him. As a proud member of the Drummond clan, he embraced his ancestry with enthusiasm and celebrated it as part of his identity. His strong faith also played a central role in his life. A dedicated member of the First Congregational Church of Guilford in Connecticut, Bill contributed to the community in meaningful ways. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to build a labyrinth at the church—a lasting testament to his commitment to creating a space for reflection and peace.
Another endeavor Bill was proud of was his design of a marble bench placed on the Plymouth University campus in honor of his fraternity. On it he wrote "He ain't heavy, He's my brother". Words Bill believed in.

Preceded in death by an infant son, Nicholas, and by his parents Mary and Lincoln Weidmann, Bill carried their memory forward through the kindness and optimism that defined him. He had an unwavering ability to look on the bright side of life and a fierce determination to hold onto life for as long as possible. This will to live carried him through many health challenges and served him well until his final days.

Bill's legacy is one of love, creativity, hard work and faith—a life well-lived that will continue to inspire those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
