In Loving Memory of William Dennis Willoughby, (age 72), passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
William was born in Detroit to parents William and Jeanette Willoughby. He grew up in Redford Township, Michigan. During his high school years, William was known for his sense of humor, and his genuine, kind demeanor. His warmth and generosity earned him the school's first "Citizenship" award when he graduated in 1971. As a former classmate put it recently, "William always had a smile and a kind word for everyone in the school".
He attended college at Lawrence Institute of Technology in Michigan. William was a talented programmer and was recruited by American Motors Corporation while he was still in college. He made his mark at AMC early when he created their first Electronic Funds Transfer program, allowing employees to have their paychecks sent directly to the bank; something we take for granted today.
William eventually joined Air Transport International Corporation and would move with the company to Little Rock, Arkansas. He later worked for the Arkansas Department of Health. William had many titles; Programmer, Systems Analyst; Manager; and Director; but his favorite title was "Dad". He took every opportunity to talk about his two boys. Conversations always included T-ball games; school and scouting events; later evolving into current jobs and accomplishments. He was very proud of his boys.
His family takes comfort in knowing his laughter and compassion for people will live on in the hearts of the people who knew him. We would like to thank family, friends, former classmates, and co-workers in Michigan and Arkansas, for the outpouring of condolences, stories and pictures. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
