Obituary

Wilma Lee Samuels (Lockhart) was born on November 28, 1948, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She departed this life into her heavenly home on Saturday, December 27, 2025, in Forestville, MD. She was born to William and Rosa Lee Lockhart and reared in a loving and hardworking household with a strong religious foundation alongside her three sisters, Patricia, Loretta, and Janice. Wilma was a very bright and dedicated student with a passion for medicine and science. Her desire to help others thrive led her to study nursing at Baltimore City Community College and earn her associate's degree.

Wilma, affectionately known as Will and Sam, excelled in her professional career became a Registered Nurse (RN). Over the course of her roughly twenty years of service in the profession, she had stints at several DC area hospitals and healthcare centers including Sibley Hospital and Providence Hospital and served as a private duty nurse as well.

Beyond her demanding work life, Wilma found her greatest joy in her family life, giving birth to her daughter, Thomasina, with her ex-husband, Thomas Samuels, in 1969 and later to her son, DeMario, with her soulmate, Donald Greene, in 1987. She served as a supportive bonus parent to Donald's two other children, Cynthia and Karla. She also got to embrace the wonder of becoming a grandparent to Thomasina's three children, Antoine, Reggie, and Leila.

Wilma was also a very active member of her community, often volunteering her time at local community centers and her church home, Union Temple Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Tribe of Ephraim. She leaned heavily on her faith as source of inspiration and encouragement both in times of great triumph and great turmoil. No matter what the moment called for, she kept her bible at the ready.

Leaving an enduring legacy of warmth, sincerity, and devotion, Wilma never met a stranger she couldn't turn into a friend. She greeted the world with a smile on her face, a bounce in her step, and a song in her heart. Wilma's spirit was indomitable and she always had the courage of her convictions. Her laughter was inviting; her tenacity was inspiring; and her love was enveloping.

Left to cherish her memory are: two children: Thomasina Samuels Adeda, DeMario Greene; two bonus children, Cynthia Greene, Karla Laney; and three grandchildren, Antoine Samuels, Reggie Samuels, Leila Samuels; one sister, Janice Oliver - Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters-in-love Mary Isler (Frederick) - Silver Spring, Maryland; L'Tange Alexander (Ronnie) - Southampton, New Jersey; Barbara West (Jerome) - Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
