Yoh Lee

1928 - 2026

Yoh Yul Lee, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at home on March 20, 2026, in Rockville, Maryland. She was 98 years old.

Born on February 13, 1928, in what is now North Korea, Yoh’s life was marked by resilience, independence and determination. As a young woman seeking a brighter future, she moved to Seoul in search of employment. However, the outbreak of the Korean War brought profound challenges to her life. Separated from her mother and sisters during the conflict, Yoh endured decades apart from her family. In 1992, after more than 40 years of separation, she was finally able to return to North Korea for a brief but deeply meaningful reunion with her loved ones.

In 1972, at the age of 44, Yoh made the courageous decision to immigrate to the Washington, DC area with her husband and children to start a new life. Through hard work and perseverance alongside her husband Hack Lee, Yoh proudly achieved the American dream. She became a United States citizen and ensured that her children had the opportunity to attend both college and graduate schools.

Yoh was the devoted mother of John (Suezan), Ed (Tonya), and Elizabeth; and the cherished grandmother of Noah, Johnna, Serena, and Evelyn. She took immense pride in her grandchildren and loved them with all her heart. Her family will forever treasure the memories they shared with her and remain profoundly grateful for her unwavering love and sacrifices.

Yoh’s faith was a source of strength throughout her life. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace with the Lord in heaven. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
