Don Coleman Obituary

COLEMAN Don L. Coleman, DDS., native of Harrisburg, Illinois, a resident of Mobile passed away at his home Thursday, November 6, 2008, after his brave battle with cancer. Born on November 24, 1928 to Ross A. Coleman and AnnaMarie Coleman, Dr. Coleman was a prominent dentist who practiced in Citronelle, Alabama from 1956 until his retirement in 1993 and was a member of the Mobile Dental Society. He graduated from Washington University Dental School, Saint Louis, MO. in 1953. He served as a dentist in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War era. His passion for his hobbies during his life were three-fold: Radio Controlled model airplanes, sailing and golf. He was a national figure in RC Flying in the 1970's, a member of Mobile Yacht Club sailing and racing his beloved Charisma, and a member of Heron Lakes Country Club. His most cherished possession was his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Wheatley Coleman; 4 children, Don L. Coleman, Jr., Guntersville, Alabama, Randolph S. Coleman (Laurie) and Dr. Thomas W. Coleman (Barbara) of Mobile, and Leta Salazar (John) Bluffton, SC. Nine grandchildren; Don L. Coleman III., Stan Coleman, Staci Coleman Mitchell, Randolph S. Coleman, Jr., Lauren Coleman, Natalie Coleman, Clayton Coleman, Paula Salazar and Alena Salazar. A member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, a memorial mass will be held there on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10 A.M. with a Rosary Service on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 6 P.M., followed by a Visitation from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church.

I remember reading of Don in the Model Aircraft magazines when I was young. He was a very prominent and a most respected figure on the World flying scene.
Truly sorry to hear of his passing.
