Herman Hunt Obituary

Sept. 29, 1919 - Dec. 30, 2010

Herman Hunt died at the age of 91 at home with the care of Alacare hospice and the loving care of nurse Susan Sieja on Thursday.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1919 in Elon. He was the next to the youngest of seven children born to Charlie Hunt and Janie Lemley Hunt. He served 47 months in the Army, 33 months of which were in the South Pacific, including Guadalcanal. He was awarded the Presidential Citation and the Good Conduct Medal.
Herman was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Jackson Way Baptist Church for 40 years. He loved his family and unselfishly took care of his wife, Lessie for 22 years after a major stroke. He also loved to fish and said that he knew where every stump was from Huntsville to Scottsboro.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lessie Cantrell Hunt; three sons, Herman Houston Hunt II, Rex Cantrell Hunt, and Danny Lee Hunt; daughter, Teresa Hunt Lasseter; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Herman and his wife Lessie lived the last four years of his life at the home of his daughter Teresa and son-in-law Rick Lasseter.
Arrangements are entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jackson Way Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Charity Lane Baptist Church Cemetery on Charity Lane in Hazel Green.

Aunt Lessie, Teresa, Houston, Rex and Danny-
We are so sorry to hear about your loss. We have many fond memories of Uncle Herman and your family. He was a gentle, kind man loved by everyone who knew him. He and Daddy were so close, more like twins instead of brothers. May the Lord hold you close during this time of sorrow.
