Janet Walenga

WALENGA - Janet (Shiels) Walenga was taken into the arms of Jesus and to her eternal home on July 16, 2011. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Janet is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, Edward Walenga; their children, Carol (Dennis) Johnson, and Edward (Marilyn) Walenga; grandchildren, Dennis (Marvelys), Timothy (Robin), David, Lori (Anthony), Jennifer (Adam), and Mark (Lizbeth); and thirteen great-grandchildren. Janet is best remembered for her selfless-sacrifice and love of family, her concern and attentiveness to healthy living, and her talent for sewing, baking and gardening. She also enjoyed reading and knitting as she donated countless mittens, hats, and slippers to charity. Janet was born April 8, 1921 in Kirkaldy, Scotland. She immigrated to the United States as a young child of four and was proud of her American citizenship. She remained true to her Scottish-heritage with the afternoon "cup-of-tea" and homemade shortbread cookies. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center at 2500 South Division St. SE. Family will be available one hour prior to service to greet guests. In lieu of flowers, Janet preferred memorial gifts be encouraged to Faith Hospice of Holland Home or the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center.
