SARAH KELLUM Obituary

KELLUM, SARAH ELIZABETH Kellum, Sarah Elizabeth Winter, age 91, of Bessemer, AL, died on Sunday, August 28, 2011. She was born on June 6, 1920, was a long-time active member of Second Baptist Church in Bessemer, and retired from AmSouth bank after many years of service. She was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Mrs. Kellum was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John W. Kellum, Jr.; grandson, Brett William Kellum; mother, Lavinia Winter, who died when she was five; father and step-mother, Fred and Olcie Winter; brother and sister-in-law, James and Hazel Winter. She is survived by her son, John W. Kellum, III; daughter-in-law, Sherry Kellum; granddaughter, Christy Buchanan (Bill Gallagher); great-granddaughter, Sarah Buchanan; and nieces, Sherry Gilmore (Joel), Sara Winter, and Carol Lowrey (Dare). The family would like to thank Anthony Beard and the caregivers at Plantation Manor and Odyssey Hospice for the loving care they gave during her final years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with burial to follow in Valhalla Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Homes, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL 35236. >

Mrs. Kellum was a wonderful family friend. She made living on Kyser a terrific childhood memory. So sorry for your loss.

Sarah and John were friends and I worked with them at Second Baptist Church for many years. Sorry for your loss but know they are rejoicing with our Lord.
