Helen Compaan

COMPAAN - Helen (Van Zwol) Compaan, age 87, of Grand Rapids, went home peacefully to be with her Lord in heaven on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Helen was born on October 27, 1923, in Everett WA, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Van Zwol. She proudly served as a Corporal in the Women's Army Air Corp. She dedicated herself as a pastor's wife beside her husband, Rev. Gilmer Compaan, who preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her daughters, Colleen Brook of Gladstone, MI, and Sharon Knooihuizen, of Sparta, MI; her grandchildren, Andrea (David) Dick, Elizabeth (Joe) Kearby, Benjamin Knooihuizen, Rebekah Stedman, Matthew Knooihuizen; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Avery, and Aliya. She is also survived by her sisters, Mae Kruis, Annette Kruis; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 60 Port Sheldon, in Grandville, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery's Military Hill.
