Douglas Smith Obituary

SMITH, Douglas E. - Age 83, of Linden, died Thursday, November 10, 2011. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 East Broad Street, Linden. Chaplain Steve Hittle, of Heartland Hospice will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born in Pulaski, VA on September 20, 1928. He worked in the radio and TV industry for over 60 years and was well known in the Flint and Detroit areas. He was named Country Music Disc Jockey Of The Year in 1953 and conducted teen dances in the 1950's and 60's all over Michigan. He was the past commander of the VFW Post 4642 in Linden and was a veteran of the Naval Reserves. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Helen F. Smith (Byrd); father and mother, George and Stella Smith; brothers, Earl and Edgar and sister, Ethel. He is survived by his son, Mark and Dawn Smith of Linden; daughters, Lisa and Bill Montgomery of Linden and Teah Samek of Corunna; grandchildren, Rachel Medicus and Charity Montgomery of Sebring, FL, Veronica and KEllen Samek of Corunna and Jordan, Jade and Marquis Smith of Owosso; nephews, John and Lucy Blankenship of Frankenmuth, Joe and Monica Blankenship of Owosso, Steven Smith of Rocky Gap, VA; nieces, Pamela Morrison of Pulaski, VA and Vicki Kraus of Midlothian, TX.
