Elizabeth Cooper Obituary

COOPER, ELIZABETH (BETTYE) BRASFIELD, age 78, went to be with The Lord Wednesday, November 30, 2005. She and her husband, James Lawrence Cooper recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They have three children, Virginia Cooper Hardie and husband, Sam, Elizabeth (Betsy) Cooper Scott and husband Van, and James (Jim) Lawrence Cooper, Jr. and wife Anna. She has ten grandchildren: Cooper Hardie Chunn and husband Dave, Mary Hardie, Elizabeth Scott, Kitty Scott Greenhalgh and husband Adam, Sam Hardie, Margaret Scott, James Cooper, Lamar Cooper, Anna Jackson Cooper, and Sarah Cooper and one sister, Margaret Brasfield Harmsen (Mrs. Vernon). A 1948 graduate of Vanderbilt University, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and other honoraries. She has always been an active member of the community. She served on he Mountain Brook Board of Zoning Adjustment, is a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, Covenant Presbyterian Church and a past Regent of The Daughters of the American Revolution. Bettye demonstrated her lifelong interest in young people and their education by serving as President of the Crestline School PTA, as one of the founders of the Independent Presbyterian Day School and as Chairman of the Linly Heflin Unit Scholarship Committee. She was also an involved member of the Colonial Dames and served as Patriotic Service Chairman, the Birmingham Center Chairman and the 5th Vice President of the State Society. She was a loving wife and mother who shared a warm and gracious smile with everyone she met. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2005 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held in Huntsville, AL at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tom Saxon Romania Missions c/o Covenant Presbyterian Church, 65 Old, Montgomery Hwy, Homewood, Alabama 35209. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (879-3401) in Homewood.
