As a former student, I will remember Dr. Welke as a kind man who spoke lovingly of his family, who had a zest for life, and who gave my first daughter the book "Oh the Places You'll Go"! (It is fitting that book came from a man who went to so many places). He will be missed.

Bill was a friend, a colleague and an inspiration to those of us who remember his dedication to teaching and the College. Godspeed to his family in this difficult time.

Dear Mary and Ann, I was so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. So many of my memories at church include both you and your parents. I always think of the two of you when I hear O Holy Night...and will especially so this Christmas season. Please know I am thinking of you now and sending you hugs. Love you both!

Mary and Ann, please know you both are in my daily thoughts and prayers. The death of our parents is painful, but I hope you both are able to take joy in the fact that you had one heck of a wonderful father. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Bill was an all-the-time friend, a valued colleague and a respected college administrator. He switched hats from a much appreciated Canada fishing trip cook to beloved teacher with ease. His dedication and hard work contributed significantly to the attainment and maintenance of college accreditation and to the successful completion of two major university capital campaigns. We could not have done it without you, Bill.
Our hearts reach out to his lovely twin daughters Mary and Ann who, wonderfully for Bill, inherited the beauty and grace of their beautiful mother Vivian whom God took from us much to soon. Sadly, granddaughter Kennedy Grace, your joyful time with your dear grandfather has been much too brief. Please know that all of us will remember him with affection, respect and admiration.

I miss our lunches and talks. We had a very special friendship that will get me through your passing. My thoughts are with Mary and Ann, their husbands and of course Kennedy.

I remember working registration in the old, cold and dank Reed field house. He was someone who could warm you up quicker than the coffee!
A joy to know.
