BLACKNEY,
WILLIAM W., JR. (III)
William W. "Bill" Blackney, age 94, died July 24, 2013. Born December 1918 in Flint, MI, he had been a resident of Naples, FL since 1977. Bill graduated from Flint Central High School, attended Flint Junior College, George Washington University, and graduated from Albion College in 1946. He was an alumnus and past E.A. of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (W.C. Rho). A veteran of WWII with the 8th Fighter Group, 5th Air Force, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, he served as Radio Operator, Cryptographic Technician, and Message Center Chief, shared in Distinguished Unit Citation with Cluster. He married Jeanne Welburn of Albion, MI and returned to the Flint area. Bill was employed by G.M. Parts Division for 27 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1974. He was preceded in death by his parents, Congressman Wm. W. and Cassie F. (Miller) Blackney; son, Wm. W. Blackney IV; sister, Shirley Cunningham; and brother, Jack Blackney. Surviving Bill are daughter, Christie Brighton; grandchildren, Heidi (Joseph) Salmons and Wm. W. (Nicole) Blackney V; great grandchildren, Torin and Kennedy Salmons and Gwendolyn and Wm. W. Blackney VI; niece, Anne (Geoffrey) Hopwood; and great-nephew, Troy Aymond. At his request there will be no memorial service. Online condolences may be made at
