GRIESSEL, JANE B. (ADAMS) Richland

Jane B. Griessel, age 80, died on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo, MI, following a lengthy illness. Jane, the daughter of Harry B. and Mabel K. (Klingaman) Adams, was born on December 22, 1932 in Tekonsha, MI and was raised on the family farm. She was a 1950 graduate of Tekonsha High School; earned her Bachelors Degree in Education and later, her Masters at Western Michigan University. Jane taught the seventh grade until her two children, Sue and John were born. She loved animals and nature, especially birds and her beautiful backyard was a sanctuary for many birds, particularly humming birds. There was always a bird feeder to tend to and fresh water in the bird baths. Jane directed Senior Programs at Comstock for many years, where the activities included numerous bus trips in Michigan and to other states. She finally retired to gardening, playing bridge and enjoying the company of many dear friends. Jane was an avid reader and enjoyed reading books and magazines from the Richland Community Library. On June 20, 1953 on Western Michigan University's Campus, Jane was united in marriage to William H. "Bill" Griessel. Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Bill; her daughter, Sue (Samuel) Press of Burlington, VT; her son, John W. (Jan Imof) Griessel of Southern Pines, NC; her grandson, Philip Griessel of Southern Pines, NC; and three brothers, Craig (Carol) Adams of Tekonsha, Noel Adams of Healdsburg, CA and Wade (Sandra) Adams of Kalamazoo. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Carol. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jane's life will be held in the Spring of 2014 and will be announced by the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel. Final interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jane's honor may be directed to the Richland Community Library, 8951 Park Drive, Richland, MI 49083.
