Fr. Barney J. Janowicz

JANOWICZ, FR. BARNEY J. Bay City, Michigan Fr. Barney J. Janowicz was called home to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Auburn Heights Senior Care. Age 82 years. He was born September 14, 1931 in Beaver Twp. to the late Edward and Eva (Gielda) Janowicz. He attended St. Hyacinth grade School and Beaver School. Fr. Barney received his secondary education from St. Mary Seminary in Orchard Lake. He went on to further priestly formation at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake and St. John Provincial Seminary in Plymouth. Father Barney was ordained to the priesthood on June 1, 1957 by Bishop Stephen S. Woznicki at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw. During his priestly assignments, Fr. Barney served as assistant pastor at St. Boniface, Ss. Peter & Paul and St. Hyacinth Church. He was assigned pastor for St. Valentine, St. Mary & St. Edward of Kinde, Holy Trinity, St. Matthew and St. Francis Church of Pigeon. Fr. Barney was assigned senior status (retired) July 1, 1997. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #414 and the Knights of Columbus St. Stephen Council #4102 where he served as Chaplain. Surviving are two sisters, Theresa Sporman, Blanche (Everett) Anderson, all of Bay City; many nieces, nephews and his loving and caring extended family, Paul and MaryLou Drzewicki and their children. Fr. Barney was predeceased by two sisters, Sophie (Matthew) Satkowiak, Helen (Ray) Jankowski; a brother, Edward (Betty) Janowicz and a brother in-law, Eugene Sporman. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 1 PM from St. Hyacinth Church. The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw will preside. Fr. Richard Jozwiak will preach the homily with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Hyacinth Church only on Tuesday from 10 AM until time of mass.
