Charlotte Fink Lankford

Feb. 23, 1923 - Oct. 13, 2014 Charlotte Fink Lankford, 91, passed away on October 13, 2014. Born on February 23, 1923 in New York City, she graduated cum laude from Gettysburg College with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She received a Master of Arts from the University of Tennessee, where she taught English for two years. In 1946 she married Frank Edward Lankford. Charlotte was a member of South Highland Presbyterian Church for over sixty years where she served as Circle Leader, Bible Teacher, and member of the Flower Guild. She also co-wrote A Heritage of Witness, the history of the Church's first hundred years. She was a docent at the Art Museum and Co-Chairman of the Museum Ball. She was president of the Women's Committee of the Birmingham Symphony and chaired many other committees. She was a founder of the Birmingham Bar Auxiliary and a charter member of the Sherwood Forest Garden Club, where she was president several times. She served on the boards of the Highland Day School and the Girls' Club. She thoroughly enjoyed her membership in the Jane Austen Society of North America and was president of the local chapter. Charlotte is survived by her loving children, Frank Edward Lankford, Jr. (Carolyn), Allison Lankford Morgan and Lindsay Lankford Sinor (Drew). She is predeceased by her husband, Frank, and by her son, Frederick Phillip Lankford. Her grandchildren are Frank Lankford III, Fred Lankford II, Rebecca Lankford, Elizabeth Read (Colin), Lauren Barcik (Dave), Mary Byrne Pierce (Matt), Jackson Sinor, III, Charlotte Sinor, Stuart Sinor; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Read, Colin Read, Jr., Caroline Read, Allie Barcik, Hayes Barcik and Katherine Pierce. The family will receive friends at South Highlands Presbyterian Church at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to South Highland Presbyterian Church. The family wishes to express its deepest thanks to Renee Bullard and Staci Campbell for the compassionate care they provided to Charlotte and our family.
