RIDLEY, Robert Murney
Bob passed away peacefully on 9th January 2015 at his home in Morgan Creek at age 86 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. His wife of 34 years, Delia was at his side. Bob was born in Calgary, Alberta in September 1928, the youngest of 3 sons born to Edmund and Phyllis Ridley. The family moved to British Columbia on his Father's retirement, where Bob attended Prince of Wales School. His timber cruising in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island paid for his University Fees, at UBC: Bob graduated with a Commerce Degree, after switching from Engineering. To his chagrin, he was too young to join Brothers Wilf and Fred in the Armed Forces during WWII but he enlisted anyway, and received Pilot Officer Commissions in both the Canadian Air force and the Canadian Naval Reserve. Bob and his first Wife Sally (Lewis) were married in Vancouver and moved to Calgary, where Bob started his long and very successful career with Amoco Petroleum Company. Bob received many accolades during his career, ran three overseas branches of one of the biggest Oil Companies and was appointed President of the American Association of Landmen. Bob's career with Amoco took him from Calgary, to Oklahoma, Chicago, Norway, The Netherlands and Trinidad in the West Indies. Bob and Delia met in London and were married there in January 1981. Bob's incredibly busy and rewarding career meant they spent the next eight years or so moving from Norway to Holland and finally Trinidad. When Bob retired in 1989, they moved to Spain where they spent over 20 long and happy years, dividing their time between Spain, Val d'Isere in France, the UK, Canada and Blaine, WA. Bob's golfing skills were in The Zone with his Hole in One at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club in July 2005. They moved to Canada in 1999. Bob was fortunate to have lived a very full and complete Life. His warmth, generosity, sense of humour and that amazing smile beneath those crystal blue eyes will live in our memory always. It is impossible to verbalise how much Bob will be missed by all those who loved him, especially the Love of his Life Delia, children Richard (Adeline) Peter, Joanne, Susanne Maxwell (Tim) and his much cherished grandchildren, Dylan and Samantha Freeze and their Father Art, Elliot, Sally and Abby Maxwell and Bobby and Krista Ridley, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by brothers Wilfred and Frederic and first wife Sally. Bob faced his diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease with great courage and dignity continuing his skiing, golfing, and travelling and a vigorous exercise regime. The family extends grateful thanks to his care givers in his latter years, Carol Cramb and Benjie Lopez, whose patience and dedicated care were instrumental in making Bob's Life easier and more comfortable in the privacy of his own home. A Private Funeral Service was held in Vancouver at St John's Shaughnessy. A Celebration of Bob's Life is planned for Calgary, Alberta later in the year. Donations in Bob's Memory may be made to
