Gerald Anthony Sumkowski

1942 - 2019

Sumkowski, Gerald Anthony Age 76, of Rives passed away 5:36 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis Tenn. Gerald was born July 6, 1942, in Jackson, Michigan, son of the late Anthony and Donna (Vandam) Sumkowski. He married Cheralyn Kay "Shirley" Sumkowski May 19, 1962. She preceded him in death September 1, 2008. Gerald retired from the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Jackson Michigan and Union City Tennessee after 38 years of service. He then was a driver for Northwest Tennessee Transit Authority. Gerald had served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He is survived by three daughters, Karen Stough (Dennie) of Union City, Tenn., Gina Henry (Rick) of Parma, Michigan and Christine Brown (Gene) of Jackson, Michigan; two sisters, Cheryl Strzyzewski and Jeannie Sumkowski both of Jackson, Michigan; two brothers, Denny Sumkowski (Cindy) of Pleasant Lake, Michigan and Ron Sumkowski (Marci) of Napoleon, Michigan; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gerald "Jerry" Sumkowski; and one brother, Robert Sumkowski. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Jackson Church of God, 563 Robinson Road, Jackson with Brother Jim Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joshua Thompson, Robert Junior Sumkowski, Steve Sumkowski, Steve Bosco, Doug Lake and Ryan Oakley. Visitation will be held at Desnoyer Funeral Home, 204 N. Blackstone, Jackson from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and at Jackson Church of God from 12:00 Noon until the hour of services Saturday.
