Jean Ehmer Obituary

Jean Lucretia Achille Ehmer, 90
1929 - 2019
Jean Ehmer, 90, of Dongan Hills, died peacefully on Sept. 8, 2019, in Clermont, Fla.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her son, George (Doris); daughter, Mary (Ken); granddaughters, Elizabeth (Zachary) and Allison (Kenneth); great-granddaughter, Eleanor, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, George C. Ehmer ("Mickey"); father, Nicholas Achille; mother, Mary Achille (née Gatto); and brothers, Frank and Carmine Achille.
A Staten Island resident for over 60 years, Jean spent many years volunteering at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home, and regularly attended St. Ann's Catholic Church. Jean never missed a Sunday word search in the Advance. She enjoyed music, especially the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and opera. She passed down the traditions of Italian cooking from her Italian mother to her family. She loved to crochet, and for many years she ran a business making decorations for bridal and baby showers. She enjoyed playing games - dominoes on Sundays and poker on Wednesdays with the girls - and she was always the last one to leave a party.
Jean spent her final year of life in Florida near her daughter Mary's family, where she celebrated her 90th birthday in August, and rejoiced in meeting her first great-grandchild Eleanor, born two weeks before Jean's death.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home. Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church, Dongan Hills, on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
